ABSEIL

For evacuation, to ground level, of incapacitated personnel. Suitable for when the descent route is obstructed.
Course details

Duration: 1 Day.

Audience: Any person who may have to perform a rescue whilst working at height.

Course Aim: To provide enough practical experience and education to competently perform an evacuation of an incapacitated climber from a structure by using an abseil rescue system.

Syllabus: 
Pre use inspection of a rescue system
Attachment to anchor points
Attachment to harness
Adjustment of rescue system
Descending with 1 person
Attachment to casualty
Descending with 2 people
Understanding suspension intolerance

Prerequisites: Suitable work at height qualification/experience.
Reasonable level of health, fitness and aptitude.

Max. Ratio: 6 Delegates to 1 instructor.

Certification Expiry: The certificate is valid for a maximum of one year.

Throughout the course, the student will be continually assessed and expected to complete a written and practical examination. Only on successful completion of the whole course and examination will the candidate be issued with a certificate of competency.

This course is designed and delivered using BS8454 (code of practice for the delivery of training and education for work at height and rescue), IRATA international code of practice and equipment manufacturers technical instructions.

SELF EVACUATION

Abseil evacuation. suitable for where a single egress route may become unusable, typically due to fire.
Course details
Duration: ½ Day.

Audience: All operators of man riding mechanical handling equipment.

Course Aim: To provide practical experience and education in the safe use of relevant equipment to enable a safe evacuation in the event of an emergency.

Syllabus: 
Introduction to the system and its applications
Maintenance & servicing procedures
Demonstrations of use by instructor
Selection of anchorage points
Practical low level descents
Evacuation procedures
Practical high level descents
Protection of evacuees from below

Prerequisites: Reasonable level of health, fitness and aptitude.

Max. Ratio: 4 Delegates to 1 instructor.

Certification Expiry: The certificate is valid for a maximum of one year, subject to 6 monthly assessment of competence and confidence, to be conducted by a qualified instructor.

Throughout the course, the student will be continually assessed and expected to complete a written and practical examination. Only on successful completion of the whole course and examination will the candidate be issued with a certificate of competency.

LIFTING / LOWERING SYSTEMS

Evacuation to a safe area above or below a casualty. Suitable where the egress route is unobstructed.

Duration: 1 Day.

Audience: Any person who may have to perform a rescue to evacuate an incapacitated person to a point of safety whilst working at height.

Course Aim: To provide enough practical experience and education to competently perform an evacuation of an incapacitated climber from a structure.

Lifting a Casualty
Lowering a Casualty

MULTI DAY RESCUE COURSES FOR DESIGNATED RESCUE TEAMS

Combination of rescue techniques and use of backup systems, angled descents, stretchers and casualty medical care.
Suitable for rescue teams and where descent routes are awkward.
Course details
Duration: The duration of this course will differ depending up on the course content and the prior competency of the audience.

Audience: Any one who by nature of their work needs to be able to care for and extract an injured colleagues or co-worker whilst working at height or difficult to access areas.

Course Aim: To create an onsite rescue/first aid team that can competently react to incidents and injuries sustained at height.
HSE approved first aid qualifications can be incorporated within this training.

Syllabus: 
Heightworks can design a course specific to your needs which incorporates different safe working at height and rescue techniques along with differing levels of medical care training.
Typical course content may include:
Understanding personal fall protection techniques
Harness donning and inspection
Lifting and lowering systems
Two rope systems (back-up ropes)
Use of stretchers
Maintaining casualty airways
Use of defibrillators
Administration of oxygen

Prerequisites: Reasonable level of health, fitness and aptitude.

Max. Ratio: 6 Delegates to 1 instructor.

Certification Expiry: This certificate is valid for 1 to 3 years depending up on course content and subject to maintenance of skill level.

Throughout the course, the student will be continually assessed and expected to complete a written and practical examination.

Only on successful completion of the whole course and examination will the candidate be issued with a certificate of competency.
